Central Jersey is bracing for a new round of torrential rains barely two weeks after storms flooded the region.

The National Weather Service issues a flood watch for the area that stretches into Friday morning. The agency says a anywhere from 1.5 to 3 inches of rain is likely, with up to 5 inches of rain in some communities.

The flood watches extend across nearly the entire Northeast—from Northern Virginia to parts of New England—with New Jersey smack in the center of it all.

Some local governments have issued alerts and announced early closings ahead of the bad weather. Edison is urging drivers to stay off the roads during the rain, adding emergency crews are ready to respond.

Union County announced park closures ahead of the rain. Public pools—including Ulrich Memorial Pool in Rahway River Park—are closing early so people can get home safely.
