Festival of the Moon to Bring Lunar Magic to Rahway
RAHWAY, NJ — This fall, the moon will breathtakingly descend on downtown Rahway.
From October 4–20, 2025, the city will host the Festival of the Moon, a 17-day celebration centered around a striking art installation: Museum of the Moon, a touring sculpture by British artist Luke Jerram. This is the first time the artwork will be displayed in New Jersey — and one of only a few times it’s ever appeared on the East Coast.
“We’re not just showcasing the Moon — we’re celebrating Rahway’s continued rise as a cultural destination.”
— Mayor Raymond Giacobbe
Measuring 23 feet in diameter, the internally lit moon features detailed NASA lunar imagery and a custom surround sound composition by award-winning composer Dan Jones. It will be suspended inside the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC), creating a dreamlike experience for visitors of all ages.
The Festival of the Moon will include daily events, performances, and immersive programming inspired by lunar themes. Highlights include:
– Live music and dance
– Children’s theater and opera
– Film screenings
– Appearances from the New Jersey Symphony, American Repertory Ballet, New Jersey Opera Theater, and Chinese Culture Arts Association
Public viewings of Museum of the Moon will be free, but advance reservations are recommended. For full event details and ticketing info, visit www.rahwaymoonfest.com/schedule.
Local businesses will also take part in the festivities with themed specials, menus, and events.
“This is the kind of big, bold, beautiful event that makes Rahway special,” said Rahway SID President Jorge Casalins. “Museum of the Moon will light up our downtown in more ways than one.”
