Woodbridge Township Business Administrator Vito Cimilluca will retire effective April 30, 2026, bringing to a close a 43-year career in municipal government that began with an entry-level position and culminated in one of the township’s most powerful administrative roles, Mayor John E. McCormac announced Tuesday.

Cimilluca, who has served as business administrator since 2019, oversaw day-to-day operations for Woodbridge Township, including supervision of 14 operational departments and a workforce of more than 1,500 full- and part-time employees. In that role, he managed a $230 million annual operating budget and administered the township’s personnel and health benefits programs.

“Vito Cimilluca represents the very best of Woodbridge Township through his advocacy and pursuit of excellence on behalf of the entire community,” McCormac said in a prepared statement. The mayor credited Cimilluca’s rise through the ranks — from Public Works to the top administrative post reporting directly to the mayor — as evidence of sustained leadership and institutional knowledge.

Cimilluca began his municipal career in 1983 after graduating from the Middlesex County Police Academy, working in the Department of Public Works and eventually taking on assignments across nearly every facet of township operations. Alongside his DPW career, he served for more than two decades as a Woodbridge Township Special Police Captain, overseeing auxiliary and special police units.

In 2011, Cimilluca was appointed director of the Department of Recreation, where township officials say he expanded programming and helped transform the Woodbridge Community Center into a regional recreation and wellness hub, including the development of a nationally recognized youth ice hockey program.

Since becoming business administrator in 2019, Cimilluca acted as the mayor’s chief liaison for municipal operations, coordinating services for more than 103,000 residents. In 2024, he was also appointed to the New Jersey Council on Local Mandates by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin.

In his own statement, Cimilluca reflected on his career as a progression through multiple departments that allowed him to work with “exceptional people” across township government. He described leadership transitions as a necessary part of public service and thanked McCormac for the opportunity to serve in the administrator role for more than six years.

“I leave this role with immense pride, appreciation and gratitude for the community and people who have meant so much to me throughout my career,” Cimilluca said.

No announcement has yet been made regarding a successor or transition plan ahead of Cimilluca’s April 30 retirement date.
