Woodbridge Township officials opened Tuesday night’s council meeting by marking the start of Women’s History Month, honoring the contributions of women in public service and across the community before moving into the regular business agenda.
Council Vice President Lizbeth DeJesus, who helped lead the recognition ceremony, spoke about the importance of acknowledging women whose work has helped shape the township and the broader region.
“I’m very proud to be a woman, and I am very proud to be an advocate for women in general,” DeJesus said during the ceremony. “I believe that we can do everything.”

DeJesus encouraged residents to use the month as an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of women in government, education, healthcare, and local civic life.
“My mother was a single mom, and my mom always said, ‘You can do whatever you want. You can become whatever you want.’ And so I grew up that way. So there’s no other way for me to think,” said DeJesus.
New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin attended the event and said women play critical roles on modern society.
“No one cares more about Woodbridge than the women that I have had the privilege of serving with over the course of this time,” said Coughlin, who also acknowledged New Jersey’s newly elected female governor, Mikie Sherrill.
The ceremony took place ahead of the council’s regular meeting agenda.

Traffic Ordinance Adopted for Keasbey Streets
During the legislative portion of the meeting, the council adopted a traffic ordinance establishing residential permit parking in parts of the Keasbey section of the township.
The measure amends the township’s traffic code to create permit parking regulations on Judy Drive and Glen Drive. The ordinance passed on second and final reading without public comment.
Council Members Highlight Upcoming Community Events
During closing remarks, council members also previewed several upcoming township events and community initiatives scheduled for the coming weeks.
Announcements included upcoming community celebrations, job fairs, and seasonal events expected to take place across Woodbridge’s neighborhoods this spring.
Officials encouraged residents to participate in the programs and continue supporting local initiatives aimed at strengthening the township’s civic and cultural life.
